Exceptions:
Due to new laws in some place that require operating systems, such as F3OS, to have built-in age verification or attestation, I have been forced to make access to the F3OS website as well as future editions of F3OS unavailable to people in such areas. Apple and Microsoft already have the infrastructure for that, while Linux does not. At first glance, it would seem that the rules shouldn’t apply for a filtered distribution such as F3OS. But unfortunately, that is not the point of such laws. These laws enable software manufacturers to see where children live, which is a major breach of privacy. As such, I cannot comply with these laws as a matter of conscience. At the time I’m writing this (Wednesday, March 25, 2026), such laws are currently on the books in the nation of Brazil and the US state of California, which takes effect on January 1, 2027. I hate to do this, I really do — but if you live in California or Brazil, I cannot allow you to use F3OS. Worse yet, other similar laws are being considered in Colorado, Illinois, and New York. If those bills become law in those states, you will be banned from using F3OS if you live in one of those states, too.
Also, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and Utah have app store accountability acts, which require app stores and developers to verify user age, obtain parental consent for minors, and implement strict data minimization. In Texas, however, this law currently has an injunction against it, so there is the possibility that this law could get cancelled. As such, I am forced to prohibit downloading, installing, or using F3OS in Alabama, Louisiana, and Utah as well as access to the F3OS website in those states. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
