This is where you can download the original edition of F3OS, featuring the Xfce desktop environment, a mid-weight desktop environment that works well on pretty much any computer you install it on. It’s not so light that it feels basic, yet it doesn’t consume as much memory as Cinnamon, GNOME, or KDE, either. In an online poll in February of 2023, Xfce was voted best desktop environment by those who took the poll: https://fossforce.com/2023/02/xfce-wins-our-favorite-linux-desktop-poll/

Latest improvements (November 17, 2025):
- The Waterfox web browser has been replaced with the Brave web browser. Brave is a privacy-oriented fork of Chromium created by Brendan Eich (born 1961), the creator of the JavaScript programming language and also a co-founder of Mozilla, who was ousted from Mozilla in 2008 over a $1,000 contribution to California’s Proposition 8 that year, which defined marriage as only between one man and one woman — the way it should be.
- Xfce now has its own screensaver application.
- The keyboard shortcut for opening the Xfce Whisker Menu is now the Super (Windows) key by itself.
Latest improvements (May 18, 2025): GNOME System Tools (manages user accounts) has been replaced with the MATE User Tool.
